Life's Little Care Package

History of the Care Package

No one really knows when the first care package was given to a loved one miles away.

Perhaps it was a carefully wrapped package of food, candy and warm clothes, along with a handwritten note to “Be safe and come home soon.”

The earliest known use of the term occurred during World War II when loved ones would send packages to soldiers. Artwork by Shelly Reeves SmithThe care package concept was never forgotten from its early days but its application spread to include students away from home or someone experiencing a difficult time. It came in all sizes and shapes and everyone knew that inside the package there was something special.

All the food and candy were gone quickly and perhaps shared with close friends. But the handwritten notes became keepsakes, at least for a little while. It was a true reminder that someone back home was thinking about you and cared enough to send something extra.

In today’s all-too-busy world it’s difficult to make a batch of thick and chewy oatmeal cookies and carefully wrap them for shipment to a loved one. So “Life’s Little Care Package” was created to share the same warm and cozy feeling that is still greatly appreciated now, more than ever.

Each greeting card has timely words of encouragement and artwork that will warm the heart and lift the spirit along with a matching envelope that resembles a care package. The multi-page cards are carefully designed to convey just the right feeling and emotion that the reader is special and never forgotten. When you think about it, that’s what we all want in our busy lifestyles consumed by deadlines and goals.
